For a rose from Neve Tzedek’s garden.
Why the allegations against Netanyahu cause laughter to Greeks.
In Greece, corruption of hundreds of millions of euros is considered self-evident.
Greek journalists have been watching with great interest the adventures of the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu with his country’s justice.
We have been reading almost daily in the Israeli media the development of his trial. To us Greeks, what is happening to Prime Minister Netanyahu is almost entertaining.
So, we Greek journalists get together and print the court news of Haaretz, Israeli Times, Jerusalem Post. After that we open a bottle of good quality wine and we drink to the good health of the Israeli journalists. Our Israeli colleagues as well as the Israeli judges have a great sense of humour. We have to acknowledge that.
From what we have inferred Netanyahu is accused of having a friendly relationship and possibly intriguing with an Israeli publisher- media person. He is also accused of asking an executive to remove from a webpage an article about his son’s affair with a girl that was not a Jew.
This sounds like a joke to the Greek people. If only we had Prime Ministers who would commit similar crimes! To us Greeks, the allegations against Netanyahu sound like bringing to justice a young girl just because she picked a rose from a private garden in the Neve Tzedek district.
The allegations against Netanyahu and his wife are so hilarious! We say this without having the intention of defending them. We burst into laughter because our Israeli friends have the luxury to accuse a Prime Minister of such “crimes”. See below what the Majority of the Greek Prime Ministers excluding Mr Kiriakos Mitsotakis our current Prime Minister who is an honourable man, would have done. If for example they had made a deal with Pfizer for 40 million vaccines, they would not have taken only a rose from the garden of a house in Neve Tzedek as a bribe. They would have already taken the whole garden, the whole house that the garden belongs to, the entire block where the house is with its garden. Not only would they have taken the entire Neve Tzedek district, but they would have taken as a bribe the entire Tel Aviv and they would have put it in a suitcase to deposit it in a Swiss bank account. Ha! Ha! Ha! This is the rule for the Greek Prime Ministers, ministers, scribes and Pharisees and other executives of the public sector.
We are talking about bribery of millions of euros that the people of Greece almost take for granted regardless of the Prime Ministers being left, right, centre, or extreme right wing. They all have a right-wing pocket. Ha, ha!
We are talking about millions of euros, intriguing with publishers, oligarchs, businessmen. Even with themselves do the Greek Prime Ministers intrigue. Therefore, as we read the allegations against Netanyahu, we think how lucky the Israeli people are, who have managed to be the vaccine champions of the entire world without a single word of bribery having been heard against the Israeli politicians.
Here in Greece, we take corruption for granted. Shabbat Shalom.
